Justice For Kaleym: Community Gathering In Toronto On September 26

A community gathering will honour 19-year-old Kaleym Davy and call for answers, transparency and accountability.

On Saturday, September 26, community members will gather at 40 College St. in Toronto for a gathering in honour of Kaleym Davy, a 19-year-old Black youth whose life came to an end following an encounter with police in Mississauga earlier this year. The gathering, titled “Justice for Kaleym,” is an opportunity for family, friends and community members to come together, remember Kaleym and continue calling for answers surrounding what happened.

Remembering Kaleym

Kaleym was 19 years old. His family has described him as a joyful person who loved to smile, connect with others and spend time with his friends and family. His death has left a deep loss for those who knew and loved him, with his family continuing to remember the person he was beyond the circumstances surrounding his death. For his family, remembering Kaleym is also about making sure that his life is not reduced to one incident. They have shared that he was deeply loved by his siblings, cousins, friends and others in his community. The family has also been raising funds to help with funeral expenses, legal representation and other costs connected to their efforts to seek answers and accountability.

Kaleym died on August 6, 2026, following an encounter involving Toronto Police Service officers in Mississauga. According to Ontario's Special Investigations Unit (SIU), officers were tracking a Mercedes in connection with a firearms investigation when the vehicle was located in the area of Delfi Road, near The Collegeway and Winston Churchill Boulevard. Three unmarked police vehicles became involved in a collision with the Mercedes, which had four people inside. During the incident, an officer discharged their firearm and Kaleym, who was driving the vehicle, was struck and later pronounced dead at the scene. The SIU is independently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. The agency has assigned investigators, forensic investigators and a collision reconstructionist to the case.

There was also an early correction regarding the vehicle. The SIU initially reported that the Mercedes had been reported stolen, but later updated its information to say that the vehicle had not been reported stolen and that police had been tracking it in connection with a firearms investigation.

The investigation remains ongoing, and the full circumstances surrounding what happened have not yet been determined publicly.

Coming together for Kaleym

The September 26 gathering gives community members another opportunity to stand alongside Kaleym's family and keep his memory present. The event flyer calls for “No More Silence, No More Injustice” and encourages people to come together, bring their voices and support the continued call for accountability.

For Kaleym's loved ones, this is about more than one day. It is about remembering a young person whose life mattered to the people around him, while continuing to seek clarity about the events that took him away.
