Homeless Connect Toronto Brings Free Services To Downtown Community
On Sunday, October 26, the Mattamy Athletic Centre in downtown Toronto was transformed into a hub of compassion and care as Homeless Connect Toronto hosted its annual event offering free services for people experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity.
From haircuts and dental cleanings to clothing, massage therapy, and ID clinics, the event brought together volunteers, service providers, and community members united by a shared goal; to help restore dignity and provide practical support for those in need.

The bustling atmosphere was filled with conversation and care. Barbers offered fresh cuts, dentists performed checkups and cleanings, and tables overflowed with clothing and shoes ready for new homes. For many attendees, it was a rare opportunity to access basic services that are often out of reach.
One participant, Amanda, said she heard about the event through the Weston and King Neighbourhood House drop-in program. “I came to get clothing and a haircut, and maybe see the massage therapists,” she shared. “Things like that aren’t always available to us. It’s really good to have people out there taking care of people who are homeless or on the verge of being homeless. They’re doing a really good job helping everyone they can.”
When asked what change she’d like to see, Amanda was direct: “Help people with more housing. Get people off the streets and make more buildings so that people are safe.”
The event’s organizers echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that homelessness must be approached with empathy and humanity. The Executive Director of Homeless Connect Toronto told CP24 that one of the simplest and most powerful things people can do is to “start by seeing people as people first.”
As speeches continued upstairs and guests lined up for services, the sense of community was palpable. Homeless Connect Toronto not only provided essential care—it reminded everyone that even small acts of kindness can spark meaningful change.
